Lavender
Lavendel staat bekend als het heerlijk ruikende liefdeskruid. In het Latijn heet de plant ‘Lavandula Vera’. Het woord ‘lavendulus’ betekent ‘wat gewassen moet worden’. De Romeinen gebruikte de plant om zich mee te wassen door zijn lekkere geur. Tegenwoordig zien we nog steeds veel zepen of lotions met deze heerlijk ruikende plant er in. Het Latijnse woord ‘vera’ betekent ‘echt’. Naast dat lavendel heerlijk ruikt, is het ook een erg mooie plant om te zien. De mooie paars bloemetjes passen in vrijwel iedere tuin.
Lavendel in de keuken
Lavendel kan ook worden gebruikt in de keuken. Met name in de Franse keuken worden zowel de bloemetjes als de blaadjes van de lavendel gebruikt als smaakmaker in vlees, stoofschotels en soepen. Ook in zoete gerechten zoals desserts of gebak worden de geurige bloemetjes regelmatig verwerkt. Verder zie je lavendel nog wel een voorbijkomen in kaas of brood. Daarnaast kun je er natuurlijk heerlijk thee van zetten. Lavendel heeft een licht zoetige frisse bloemensmaak. Let wel op, niet alle soorten lavendel zijn geschikt om te eten.
