Goldenrod
De botanische naam van guldenroede is het Latijnse ‘Solidago Virgaurea’. Solidago komt van het woord ´solidare´ wat ´helen´ betekent. Virgarea is een samenstelling van ´virga´ wat ´roede´ betekent en ´aurea´ wat staat voor ´gouden´. Letterlijk betekent de Latijnse naam ‘helende gouden roede’. Maar wat is de guldenroede voor plant en waar komt hij vandaan? Wij leggen het uit.
Wat is guldenroede?
Guldenroede is een geslacht van meer dan 100 soorten uit de composietenfamilie (Asteraceae). De plant kenmerkt zich door zijn rechte stengel (roede) en opvallende goudgele (gulden) bloemen. Oorspronkelijk komt de Guldenroede uit Noord-Amerika, maar een aantal soorten komen ook in Europa voor. Door zijn mooie bloemen is de Guldenroede erg geschikt als sierplant en zelfs als decoratie. Daarnaast worden de bladeren en bloemetjes gebruikt om thee van te zetten
