Mesquite
Mesquite is afkomstig van de peulvruchten van de mesquiteboom (Prosopis pallida), die van nature groeit in de woestijngebieden van Zuid-Amerika en Mexico, met name in het Andesgebied.
De vrucht van deze boom heeft een natuurlijke, nootachtige zoetheid met een zachte karamel- en butterscotchsmaak. Het poeder dat van de peulen wordt gemaakt, is een puur plantaardige zoetstof die een romige en volle smaak geeft aan bijvoorbeeld smoothies, sappen en desserts.
Mesquite is bovendien zeer voedzaam. Het bevat veel vitamine C, plantaardige eiwitten en vezels, die helpen om de bloedsuikerspiegel stabiel te houden. Daarnaast is het rijk aan mineralen zoals calcium, magnesium, kalium, ijzer en zink, en bevat het het essentiële aminozuur lysine – een bouwsteen die het lichaam niet zelf kan aanmaken en daarom uit voeding moet halen.
