Watermelon

De Latijnse naam voor watermeloen is ‘citrullus vulgaris’. Het is familie van andere meloenachtigen zoals de galia meloen en cantaloupe. Deze vrucht kreeg het voorvoegsel ‘water’ omdat het een zeer sappige meloen is. Hij bestaat namelijk maar liefst voor 95 procent uit water. Het behoort tot een van de meest dorstlessende vruchten ter wereld. De watermeloen is een gezonde toevoeging aan je voedingspatroon.

Nog een leuk feitje is dat de pitjes in een watermeloen ook hartstikke gezond zijn voor je. De meeste mensen halen de pitjes (met veel gedoe) uit de meloen en gooien deze daarna weg. Erg zonde, want er zit veel proteïne, vitaminen en mineralen in!
